Israel's crimes

Israel: A Colonial Project

Israel’s history, from the colonial project that gave birth to the state in 1948 to the present day, is littered with crimes against the indigenous Palestinian population.

Since October 2023, Israel has been carrying out a genocide against the Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip, who had already been under an Israeli blockade since 2007, and it has intensified murderous raids, arbitrary arrests and forced displacements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

On July 19, 2024, the International Court of Justice again declared Israel’s occupation and colonization of the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967 to be unlawful and ruled that Israel is obliged to end it as rapidly as possible.

The Court also declared that all states—including Québec and Canada—have an obligation “to abstain from entering into economic or trade dealings with Israel concerning the Occupied Palestinian Territory…which may entrench its unlawful presence in the territory.

On September 18, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly gave Israel a maximum of one year to comply. Two months later, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants against Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
